Software Is Not Updating in DAW on Windows

If you run a software update and your standalone instrument gets updated but it is not updating in your DAW that indicates that your DAW is looking at an older Spectrasonics plug-in file.

Windows systems allow the users to install the updates to any location that they choose. For this reason, it's important to install the updates to the same location that your DAW is referencing in its Plugin Manager.

A catch-all solution is to remove all the instrument's .DLL files (for example, Omnisphere.dll) from the computer and run the latest software update from your Spectrasonics.net user account.

1. Open File Explorer by clicking the folder icon on your taskbar, then select “This PC” in the left-hand column.

2. Type in the name of your instrument’s .DLL file (i.e. Omnisphere.dll, Keyscape.dll, Trilian.dll, or StylusRMX.dll) in the search bar. Wait for the green bar to load all search results, then delete all of the relevant .DLL files for your instrument.

3. Navigate to your User Account, select the Update tab, then download and install the latest software update for your instrument.

You'll also need to ensure that your DAW's plug-in manager is directed to the same location your installing your update to. We recommend using the default locations for Spectrasonics plug-in files.

The default plug-in locations are:

Windows: C: Program Files Steinberg vstplugins

Windows (32 bit): C: Program Files (x86) Steinberg vstplugins

If you would like to install your plug-in files to a custom location, make sure your software update and DAW are directed to that custom location.

Additionally, make sure you don't have the same plug-in file in multiple locations - this may cause errors.

In Omnisphere and Keyscape, you can view the plugin DLL file path that your DAW is currently referencing and use that location to install your software update to. To view this file path, simply select the Spectrasonics logo in the top right corner of your instrument and then click on Diagnostics button.
